The History of Padel:
A Passion that Crosses Borders

Padel is a sport that has captured the hearts of millions of people around the world. From its humble beginnings in Mexico to its global expansion, padel has proven to be an exciting and accessible sport for people of all ages and abilities.

The Origins of Padel
It all began in the 1960s in the city of Acapulco, Mexico. Enrique Corcuera, a Mexican entrepreneur and sportsman, created padel with the intention of creating a sport that was easy to play and fun for everyone. Corcuera drew inspiration from tennis and squash, and designed a rectangular court with concrete walls.

The Expansion of Padel in Latin America
In the 1970s, padel began to spread throughout Latin America. The sport became a sensation in countries such as Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. The Argentine Padel Association was founded in 1975, and soon other federations and leagues were established in the region.

The Introduction of Padel in Spain
In the 1970s, padel was also introduced in Spain thanks to the efforts of Alfonso de Hohenlohe, a friend and partner of Enrique Corcuera. De Hohenlohe founded the first padel club in Spain, the Marbella Padel Club, and worked tirelessly to promote the sport in the country.

Padel in Europe and the World
In the 1990s, padel began to spread throughout Europe. The sport became a sensation in countries such as Spain, France, and Italy. The International Padel Federation (FIP) was founded in 1991, and today has over 50 member countries.

Today, padel is a global sport that brings people of all ages and abilities together. It's a sport that makes us laugh, sweat, and connect with others. And it's all thanks to the vision and passion of Enrique Corcuera and Alfonso de Hohenlohe.
